Year End Recital – “iPod Shuffle”

The 2017 recitals will be held at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Saturday, June 17th and Sunday, June 18th 2017.
Your child will be performing in the showcase on:

These are general seating only.  Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the show-CASH / VISA / MASTERCARD accepted only. Please purchase your tickets early and avoid the performance day line-up or a sold out show!

-Advance sale tickets cannot be refunded. Sorry, Debit transactions are not available at the door in the Cohn. ATM is in the lobby.

Children’s and Teen  – Rebecca Cohn Stage Rehearsal


  • A stage rehearsal will be held for all classes at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium. Your rehearsal time is checked below.
  • Only 1 parent is permitted to accompany the dancer to the rehearsal please.

New Preschool and Hip Hop level classes will be called up during the first 30 minutes of the scheduled rehearsal time. When they have completed their dances on stage you may leave and we will continue running the rehearsal in show order.

All classes other than New Preschool and Hip Hop are expected to stay for the full rehearsal schedule.

It is important that dancers arrive on time for rehearsal. You will meet in the auditorium and sit with your class in the designated rows. A teacher will bring the class backstage when it is their turn to dance. Please be patient as some of the dances have to be repeated a number of times to make the students comfortable in the new surroundings.

Please come dressed in regular dance wear (bodysuit, tights, dance shoes). We do not wear performance costumes at rehearsal.

I.T.P. Studio Rehearsals

All I. T. P. Level students are required to attend the studio rehearsal where you take your classes. Please notify the office if you are not able to attend.

  • There are NO regular I.T.P. classes on rehearsal nights at your studio.
  • Regular scheduled I.T.P. classes will run to and including Wednesday, June 14th only.
  • NO I.T.P. classes on Thursday, June 15th; Rebecca Cohn rehearsal is on Friday, June 16th.


I.T.P. – Rebecca Cohn Stage Rehearsal  


  • A stage rehearsal will be held at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium Friday, June 16, 2017 — 4:00 PM TO 8:00 PM for all
  • I.T.P. dancers from the Halifax and Bedford studios.
  • Please arrive 20 minutes early for stage rehearsal. Parents may drop the students off at the Stage door of the Cohn.
  • Dancers will proceed to their own dressing room area. Parents or guests of ITP students will not be allowed to stay in the auditorium or backstage during rehearsal.
  • Dancers must be dressed in regular dance clothes – black bodysuit and show tights with hair in a bun ready to perform their first dance.
  • Students leading younger classes must attend the rehearsal time for the children’s dances at the Cohn as well.
  • Please check at the office for your Leader class rehearsal times and shows.


  • Dancers are required to be at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium 30 minutes before show time. They will proceed to the back stage area OR upstairs to the second level to Room 401 to get their costume. There will be people to guide you.
  • Please wear the Mondor dance tights specified by your instructor and bring only necessary clothing to the Cohn.
  • Each dancer’s bag containing his/her street clothing must be left with the class parent in the dressing room.
  • Your child’s name must be clearly labeled on all clothing and dance shoes.
  • No Food or Drinks are allowed back stage while the students are dressed in costume.
  • New Preschool and Returning Dancer students will stay back stage after the show to be picked up by their parent.
  • All other classes will be brought to the Sculpture Court downstairs at the end of the show.


  • Each class will require a “Class Mom” to stay with the dancers back stage, before and after their performance.
  • You will be able to see your child’s class performance from the wings back stage.
  • Moms are encouraged to bring along some quiet activity toys (No Markers or Play Dough Please), and a bin/hamper to hold their dance shoes would be helpful. If you are interested in volunteering for your child’s class, please sign up at the office.


  • Your costume will be at the Rebecca Cohn in the dressing room. All Costume Rental Fees must now be paid.
  • White Mondor dance tights are worn with costumes unless otherwise advised by your instructor.
  • NO panties are worn under costumes. The dance tights are made with this in mind.
  • White ribbons are required if you are doing a tap dance in the show and are available at your studio office for $1.00.
  • No jewelry, nail polish, or temporary tattoos for performances please.
  • Hip Hop dancers require plain black or white sneakers and matching ankle socks to wear with your costume; hair in a slick ponytail.
  • All students 8 + up are recommended to have a bodyliner to wear with their costume for cleanliness and privacy.
  • Dancers at this age are then more comfortable when changing back stage. These are available for purchase at your studio.


  • As a fund-raiser for their New York trip, the Senior Intensive Training Program dancers will be doing hair up into a bun on recital day at the Cohn. Cost $5.00, cash only please. If you would like your child’s hair done, please arrive 1 hour before show time with your own hair brush. First come, first served.
  • The Senior dancers will also be selling flowers as a New York trip fund-raiser at the Cohn before and after each show.
  • Present your favorite little dancer with flowers for all her hard work and a beautiful performance!


  • HM Videography will be taping each show and will have DVD copies for sale.
  • Videos must be ordered and paid for in advance or on Recital Day. * cash / cheque payment accepted only.
  • You must have a DVD-R compatible DVD player
  • ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS on pre-paid orders.

Early Registration

  • Children’s Program registration begins at both studio locations- Saturday, May 6th, 2017 – 9:00 AM.
  • Intensive Training Program registration begins Sunday, May 7th, 2017 – 9:00 AM at the Bedford studio only.
  • Halifax studio is closed on Sunday, May 7th, 2017 and will accept ITP registrations starting on Monday, May 8th.
  • We cannot guarantee phone registration at this busy time.
  • You will require:
    1. Registration form with annual fee $25.00 + tax. Payable Cash, Cheque, Visa, Mastercard, Debit.For quicker processing, please download the form on the MDA website and fill in prior to arrival at the studio.
    2. The first 10 week post dated payment for classes starting in September – Payable with a Credit card number or a postdated cheque for August 15, 2017.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. For the benefit of the children, when classes are full we cannot accept registration over the maximum acceptable numbers. Maritime Dance Academy reserves the right to cancel class time slots that are below the minimum enrolment numbers.
  • An updated email address is required for automatic payment receipts for income tax purposes as well as M.D.A. correspondence regarding upcoming dates, events, cancellations or class notices.

Fitness Camp July 3 – 7       (Ages 5 +)

  • No dance experience required! Sports, crafts, zumba, yoga, hip hop, cardio conditioning + more. Activities both inside and outside.

Children’s Dance Camp –  Week `1 “Beauty & The Beast “   Week 2 “Sing”

Full Day CampsJuly 17 – 21       August 14 -18 (Ages 5+)  

  • 9:00 – 4:00 PM
  • $199.00 +tax per week
  • Payable: $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
  • Balance due: Friday before camp starts.

Half Day CampsJuly 17 – 21       August 14 –18 (Ages 3+)

  • 9:00 – 12:00 PM

Students will take classes in ballet, jazz and tap as well as arts and crafts and watch a theme associated movie. Some play time will be outside and they will choreograph a performance for the parents at the end of the week.

Theatre CampJuly 24 – 28    (Ages 6 +)

  • 9:00 – 4:00 PM
  • $199.00 + tax per week
  • Payable: $50.00 non-refundable deposit
  • Balance due: Friday before camp starts.
  • We will guide the students through classes building on performance skills, control and stage presence while working on a mini-production to be presented at the end of camp.

Musical Theatre Camp- July 31- August 4  (Ages 7+)

  • 9:00 – 4:00 PM
  • $199.00 + tax per week
  • Payable: $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
  • Balance due: Friday before camp starts.
  • Students will participate in improvisation workshops, singing lessons, dance classes, play writing, and character development. They will present a performance for the parents at the end of camp to show off all of their new skills!

Intensive Training Program Dance Camp- July 10 -14

  • 9:00 – 4:00 PM
  • $265.00 + tax per week
  • Payable: $50.00 non-refundable deposit
  • Balance due: Friday before camp starts.
  • For dancers entering into the ITP and Teen programs Sept/2017. Students will take classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Conditioning, Broadway + more!

I.T.P. Summer Dance Intensive –   Dates to be announced.

  • 9:00 – 5:00 PM
  • $550 + tax for 1st week only
  • $850 + tax for first 2 weeks
  • $500 + tax for 3rd week (Special 3rd week in PEI !)*
  • *Dancers must complete Week 1 & 2 to attend Week 3.
  • Payable: $100.00 non refundable deposit.
  • Balance due: Friday before camp starts.
  • Dancers must have completed 1 year in an ITP program to enrol. Warm up and stretch at 8:30 AM. Late pick up to 5:30 PM.

Camp space is limited. Registration for camps is accepted at both locations.  All camps are held at the Bedford studio, 36 Duke St.

Important Notes

Please bring all accounts up to date with the June 1st, 2017 final monthly class payment for accepted participation in
the June recital performances. All costume rental payments are also required at the office.
Watch for the brand new Theatre class performance of “Seussical the Musical” in June at the Bedford studio,Theatre room.
The Bedford studio will have open summer hours after the recital for dance registrations and dance wear purchases.
